I wanted to share my experience since up until now pretty much all I had heard from trans guys were of negative experiences with pelvic exams. If anyone put off getting one for years and years like I did out of fear of it hurting too much, being too scary, etc, I'm hoping this might be able to reassure you a bit!

BioEntopic?
[info]jack0falltrades wrote in [info]ftm
I know that a lot of non-prescription T supplements touted by online sources are frequently pure bull, but I was wondering if anyone had heard of/tried BioEntopic?
I'm getting impatient and frustrated, and I just want some way to move forward. I've been stuck in Limbo for too long.

Any experience to share? Thanks.

When did you make the switch?
[info]nathan_dorian wrote in [info]ftm
Hey guys! I hope that you're all doing well.

I'm now a month on Nebido -it's all going well, only I've been sick for the past week so I can't say if there have really been any changes (other than a bit of genital growth). All-in-all I've noticed no changes, but my voice may have begun to deepen a little - it's impossible to tell at present due to a horrible cough.

I've spent the majority of my life not passing as male, despite starting my life as male about 4-5 years ago. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, about a month or so before starting T I started passing as male in public, though I don't know how consistantly - but it seems pretty consistant to me.

But still I've been using female toilets, pretty much because I am an utter wimp. I have a bit of a social anxiety issue with public restrooms, and hate leaving the cubicle until there is no-one at the sinks (though I'm okay with biiiig public restrooms with lots of sinks), as I feel oddly unsafe until the coast is clear - so to speak.

So now I have absolutely no idea when to start using male restrooms. I figure that it should be ASAP, in order to help my passing, although my voice doesn't pass yet. I mean, I don't get dirty looks from women when I use the ladies' toilets, but on the one occassion I used a male restroom.. I had no problem there either. (Single cubicle, wasn't binding, left the toilet to get a polite smile from a gentleman going in after me.)

Also, my fiance is cisgendered male and we often use restrooms at the same time, and weirdly the concept of using a restroom at the same time as him really weirds me out, even though I'd always be using a cubicle.

But I'm getting really tired of spending time with FtM friends and pouting when parting ways to go into different restrooms.

So I was just wondering - for guys who use mens' restrooms, when did you make the switch? When did you feel safe and confident enough to do so? How did you feel about using restrooms at the same time as male friends and the like? I'd love to know your experiences.

Sorry for boosting up this no doubt already discussed topic! And thanks in advance. <3

hey guys, has anyone had any problems coming out and telling your family and friends your 'new' name? when i came out at 14 i go by Shane cuz it seems closer to my real name, but apparently, my friends are so used to my real name they dont call me Shane. Now i go by Aiden cuz apparently, someone has a name Shane too in my school. How do you tell your friends to call you by your name that you want? I'm really worried cuz i'm going to college next year and some of my friends espically close ones are going to the same college as me and i dont want them to call me by my real name.
Thanks

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the CHN Bronx Health Center and their services for trans folk. I know they do testosterone, but I was wondering what the process was and how much it would usually cost. Honestly, any information you may have will help.

Thanks,

Eli

looking for a home in Brooklyn, NY
[info]mountain_man08 wrote in [info]ftm
My wife and I are looking for a home in Brooklyn from Jan thru June or July. I'm posting here b/c it would be really cool to find a queer friendly home, since I've been living "stealth" in not-so queer friendly places for the last 3 years.

If anyone has any leads, comment here or send me a message. A spacious kitchen would be awesome since I am a veg/vegan chef with lots of fun kitchen tools.

Thanks,
Eric

Short course of gene therapy changes ovaries into testes!!
[info]turkishb wrote in [info]ftm
Scientists find single ‘on-off’ gene that can change gender traits

“We expected the mice to stop producing eggs, but what happened was much more dramatic,” said Mathias Treier, of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, who led the study.

Using genetic engineering techniques, the FOXL2 gene was switched off in adult female mice. Any developed eggs in the ovary died. Follicles, which eventually grow into eggs, slowly transformed into cells that looked like Sertoli cells, which produce sperm in the testes.

After the genetic therapy, the female mice also developed testosterone-producing cells, and their levels of testosterone surged.

has anyone been to the ftm support group at Mazzoni in Philadelphia? What is it like and what does it involve? Is it for post-transition guys too? Is it a main group that meets or random walk-ins?

thanks

surgery without a letter
[info]sin_nombre wrote in [info]ftm
I went through the tags and didn't see anything recent that would answer my question; if I missed something and this is a repeat, I apologize.

I've been on T for almost two years and have changed my documents. I'm planning to get top surgery next year, hopefully during the summer. I am not seeing a therapist and would probably not be able to afford one (time- and money-wise). To be blunt I would only do so if it meant being stuck with these things on my chest. My only free option for psych services, the campus psych center, has a policy of not writing psych clearance letters regardless of the nature of surgery. The therapist I saw for my T letter over two years ago moved out of the city when she graduated (I went to a local university for therapy because they charged on a sliding scale) and I have no contact info.

The only other option I can think of is asking my doctor at Student Health to write a letter attesting to my mental and physical health since he did my Adderall refills two years ago and does them now, so it would technically be a 'long term relationship' as defined by the SOC). That's chancy at best, so I need another backup plan.

Has anyone been able to find a surgeon who will take the 'merits' (I use that word very loosely) of each patient's case rather than adhering to a one-size-fits-all interpretation of the SOC? I do understand the reasons for them, even though I disagree with them, but that doesn't help me. I'd rather not get into a debate over the SOC; they exist now and they'll exist whenever I start approaching surgeons, so debating them is pointless and unhelpful.

Hey guys,

I wanted to share a project I've been working on, a youtube channel about gender and sexuality in society and my life. The target audience, I guess, is largely the people who really don't get it, but if you've got time I'd love to know what you guys thought, too.

working out in portland
[info]mountain_man08 wrote in [info]ftm
Hey, I'm in PDX for the month (I do this every December), and I'm going to get a membership at the rock gym so I can run and lift weights. I'm not much of a climber, but that's only because I've just done it once. If anyone would like to work out, let me know. Oh, and I'm not attached to going to this gym, so If you are interested, but have a different place you go, still hit me up.

Thanks,
Eric

PS- after Portland, we'll be in NYC (brooklyn) till July, and I'm looking for a workout buddy there too!

Razor Blades
[info]assiduous1 wrote in [info]ftm
Hi, I looked through the tags, but couldn't find what i was looking for. I had bought a nice schik quatrro women's razor for my legs, and have no aversion to pink. I was wondering if the cartridges for the men's razor would fit on it.

I was also wondering if there was a great razor, that had cheaper cartridges, and thus a cheaper overall cost, without sacrificing my face. The quatrro razors are about $10 for 4.

Thanks,

Aden

T from retail pharmacies: in stock or order-in?
[info]didianebedeau wrote in [info]ftm
I browsed the tags for this, but couldn’t find anything.

Do retail chain pharmacies ever have T in directly in stock?

I’ve heard guys mention Walgreens, CVS, and Costco, but I wasn’t sure if these pharmacies have T in stock or if it always has to be ordered in. I’m sure it varies from store to store, but wanted to know in general (I won’t bother going that route if they never have it directly in stock.)

From what I understand, T tends to be far more expensive out-of-pocket at the chain pharmacies than at the compounded pharmacies, but for a 1st injection, I know I will want to get it as soon as possible, regardless of cost.

So, is it possible to go in to one of these pharmacies with your script for T and have it filled the same day? If not, is it usually a long wait?

Price of an endo.

So I'm getting ready to start T, most likely injectable, and I'd like to know what T and doctor's visits are costing you guys. Any information is really, really helpful.

How many of you started using the male restroom before hormones? How was your
[info]taylor00725 wrote in [info]ftm
experience with using it? I'm starting to really think about just using the male bathroom for now on. I moved back home from living in Florida for 3 years, and no one but my friends recognize me and I get sir'ed all the time and I pretty well pass as male, only one person asked if I was a boy or girl out of a lot of people who have seen me. I was told I look like a 16 yr old boy, by someone who does not know who I am. I have gotten a lot of respect from people as they don't know about me being Trans (strangers), that's something I didn't experience when I was 19. I am gonna try to get on T, by summer time, and hoping to getting top surgery during the summer too, if funding goes through like I hope. Would it be best for me to use the male bathroom for now on? And what did you do when you used the male bathroom before going on hormones?
